It is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid found in grains like wheat, rye and barley. It's also a natural material produced by a yeast that lives normally on healthy skin.

It's used as a topical treatment for mild to moderate acne with rosacea like symptoms. Azelaic acids clinically proven treatment benefits are:

• it's been shown in lab studies to possess antibacterial activity against common skin bacteria Proprionobacterium acnes (P. acnes) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) in the follicle.
